This week in Wheatgrass Class...

-In literacy this week we have read the story ‘Elmer’, about a multi-coloured elephant! We described what he looked like and what he felt during the story before writing a character profile.
-In maths this week the Reception children have been working on recognising and describing 2D shapes. We also had a go at making some repeating shape patterns. The year one children have been working on comparing and measuring the length and weight of different objects.
-In our topic work this week we have started our new science topic of sound. We went on a sound walk around school to see how many different sounds we could hear. We also introduced our new topic of Africa, locating it on a map and deciding what we wanted to find out about Africa this term.

This week in Wheatgrass Class...

·         In literacy this week we have been busy writing a diary entry, imagining we were making a journey to the South Pole. We talked and wrote about what we might be thinking and feeling during our trip.
·         In maths this week the reception children have been gathering information and recording it in a tally chart. The year one children have been working on their doubling and halving skills.
·         In our topic work this week we have completed our South-Pole inspired, moving picture artwork! We have also been thinking about the world and special places we have visited. On Friday we had a great time at the school disco!

Wishing everyone a very happy half-term!

This week in Wheatgrass Class.

  •    In literacy this week we have been taking part in a whole-school writing task. We watched a video called ‘The Lighthouse’ and then had a go at writing a simple retelling of the story.
  •    In maths this week the reception children have been busy working on their addition and subtraction skills. The year one children have been working hard to write addition and subtraction number sentences.
  •   In our topic work this week we have been learning about how the weather changes during the seasons. We also looked at how the weather changes during the day. In music we tried to identify the different instruments by the sounds they made.
